THE SIRENS OF SHARP ISLAND

February - March 2022

Digital Collection for the Richard Quinn Print Project

This digital collection was rendered entirely using CLO3D software and features hand-illustrated and salt-stained prints and textiles which were developed in the studio and later transferred to the digital garments.

CONCEPT:
I spent a lot of my childhood wading along the beaches of Hong Kong. It might sound contradictory to the dystopian picture of skyscraper buildings and glimmering neon lights when most people think of this particular city, but that’s exactly why I often escaped to the seaside whenever times were rough.

As a child, I often wondered what it would be like if I let the ocean current take me deep down forever and I lived there permanently submerged; eventually adapting and becoming one with the sea pressure. To reflect this, the avatar has been modelled with prints that I developed to mimic barnacles and algae growing on her body, and her skin has taken on a holographic sheen akin to that of chromatophores in squid skin. Each garment silhouette is designed with the organic forms of sea organisms in mind.
